Britney Spears Concert Reviews

It seems like just yesterday, a chubby Britney Spears was aimlessly driving around L.A. with a bad weave, a British accent and no underwear. Actually, it was a year ago - and since then, Britney has made a remarkable transformation. Thanks to the watchful eye of her father Jamie Spears and the management of Larry Rudolph, Britney has emerged once again on top and hit the first stop on her Resurrection of Britney tour - and it was a packed house, folks.

Well, the reviews are in and there doesn't seem to be a definite consensus. Some hail Britney's comeback is a success, while others are not so excited.

People magazine were among those not impressed. "While she avoided the train wreck that was her 2007 MTV Video Music Awards appearance, a visibly nervous Spears, performing in front of enthusiastic fans near her Kentwood, La., hometown, never really hit her old stride," the write. "Indeed, throughout the show's four sections, there was a lot more strutting than real choreographic feats from Spears. And there was a decided lack of joy in her performance, which felt labored at times."

Billboard was slightly more forgiving, "The Circus tour was another strong step in the right direction. Spears didn't interact much with the crowd - the only thing she uttered to the audience was 'Thank you, New Orleans' at the end of the nearly two-hour show - and appeared at times to be lip-synching. But fans didn't seem to care, screaming wildly at the first sight of Spears, who descended from the ceiling on hoops suspended by wires, wearing a short red and black ringmaster ensemble."

However, although Britney seemed to have some issues, her fans were pleased. "Despite some stumbles and several numbers in which her dancing was no more than adequate, Spears can safely call this performance a success," a review from the L.A. Times noted.

Britney Spears's tour has reportedly been hit by the credit crunch, with "plenty of tickets" remaining unsold.

The singer has failed to sell out the opening night of her 'Circus' show in New Orleans tomorrow, according to Metro.

A source working for the production admitted that "group sales are down considerably", blaming the high cost of some seats.

"You've got individual tickets that cost as much as $500 apiece, that's a lot of money to spend on an artist who isn't a sure bet right now," the insider added.

"She's worked really, really hard to make this good. Granted, there've been some hiccups along the way, but she's going to put on a good show. I just hope there are people there to see it. This really is her last chance."

A spokesperson for Spears rubbished the report, saying that "the whole tour is completely sold out". However, tickets remain available on the star's official site.

Spears will play 35 shows in North America before starting her mini-residency in London in June.
